THE PIONEERS
VICTORIAN PAST & PRESENT DAY LADIES CRICKET ASSOCIATION
Organised 1905 Disbanded 1916 Re-organised Socially 1930
2008 is our 78th Re-union. Womne's cricket was first played in Australia (Victoria) in 1874 at Bendigo and the Victorian Ladies Cricket Association was formed in 1904 with twenty-one teams.
Due to World War I the association was disbanded in 1916 and re-formed socially in 1930 as the Pioneers, as the VLCA had become the present day VWCA, and an Annual Re-union has been held every year since its re-formation.
The formation of the Women's Cricket Association in England was in 1926, and 1931 was the Foundation Year of the Australian Women's Cricket Council which changed its name to Women's Cricket Australia and now comes under the banner of the men's cricket -Cricket Australia.
Membership to The Pioneers - It is open to all and any past or present day female player, regardless of the level of cricket they have played or in which state or country they have played in. The only criteria for membership is that 'they have played women's cricket'. we have a membership of around 200, with members not only from Victoria, but, other Australian States and we would like to encourage all female cricketers to participate in this unique Association.
The Pioneers have also introduced the presentation of a Certificate and Medallion for the player who achieves their maiden Hat trick during the previous season.
At the Re-union the Pioneers make a presentation to any current day player, who achieved their maiden century during the previous season. this is in the form of a badge and Certificate, and these are generally treasured and held in high regard and they are only presented the once, and only for the first ever century, regardless of how many centuries a player makes during their playing careers.
