VWCA History

The Victorian Women's Cricket Association has been organising cricket for girls and women since 1905. The first recorded match, however, was played many years earlier between the " Eleven Blues" and the "Eleven Reds" on April 7th, 1874 at Bendigo.  Since then the VWCA has grown to over 90 teams, including 22 junior teams, competing in the Metropolitan area and in Ballarat and Geelong.

The competition for juniors has an age limit of 17. Matches are played on a Friday night with an emphasis on participation and enjoyment. Not only do the VWCA clubs have Under 17 teams, schools and mens clubs are encouraged to enter a team into the competition.

Victoria is the largest women's cricket state in Australia. The VWCA competition is divided into four grades and is further divided into georaphical zones.

Thanks to Milo Kanga Cricket and Super 8 programs girls are now learning the game at an earlier age and this is now being reflected in the growth and interest in schoolgirls' cricket.
